This 50’s style bar and roadhouse, located in North Salt Lake, has an oil refinery as a backdrop and operated as an automotive garage from the mid 1940’s through the 1960’s. The exterior looks authentic—with its barn-style doors indicating the location its former shop bays.
The interior is rustic and comfortable with several rooms/sections for dining including an outdoor patio in the rear. In the cooler months, I love hanging out at the large fire pit on the patio.
The Music
There is music almost nightly at the Garage. The stage is located in the intimate front room which includes the bar and room for perhaps 50 people. The Garage on Beck books a variety of genres, from small acoustic performances to larger 5-6 piece bands. Space does get a bit tight with larger bands, but the Garage makes it work.
Last we heard, legendary Salt Lake City DJ Bad Brad Wheeler was booking the music, with IAMA (Intermountain Acoustic Music Association) booking one night per month. So good chance any performers you see at the Garage will be great. Check out upcoming shows here.
Speaking of Bad Brad, check out the KUAA 99.9 facebook page.
The Food
If you’re hungry and you want live music, the Garage this is a great choice. The kitchen is open Sunday-Thursday until 10pm and Friday and Saturday until 11pm. The Garage offers a full bar and an extensive menu.
Bottom line: the Garage on Beck is not a concert hall. It’s a roadhouse grill that offers great music and great ambiance. Check it out.
