Song Picks of the Week – January 5, 2021

Andrew W Boss is featured on SPW at slbard.com

Featuring “Patience” by Andrew W. Boss, “Free Spirit” by Fictionist and “Holiday’ by Adrift Airship.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

“Patience” | Andrew W. Boss | Rap, Rock

From empty grocery store shelves, to wearing masks—and all the intolerance that reared its ugly head with the pandemic—Andrew W Boss sings about how “Patience” is killing him. Figuratively speaking of course, and ironically, he seems to find his once lonely and bitter past is now sorely missed. “Patience.” off the 2020 album “The Arrival,” has a great blend of rap lyrics and hard crunching guitars. I love the contrast of Boss’ rap verses and the soaring chorus harmonies. If you like Lincoln Park, I think you’ll love the Boss Crew. Follow Andrew W Boss on Instagram, stream on Spotify and Apple Music, and watch on YouTube. Breaking: Catch the Boss Crew live this weekend, Jan. 9 at The Royal– Scott Cullins

2) “Free Spirit” | Fictionist

Our second pick comes from Salt Lake City art rockers, Fictionist. “Free Spirit” was released way back in 2016, as part of their EP with the same title, but we wanted to take a step back to where it all began. Fictionist formed in 2015 and shortly thereafter went on tour with other notable Utah bands like Neon Trees and Imagine Dragons. We’ll be posting more on Fictionist in the future. Learn more about the band at fictionist.com, stream their music on Spotify and Apple Music, watch them on Youtube and follow them on Facebook and Instagram. – Norman Boland

3) “Holiday” | Adrift Airship | Funk/Space Indie

Adrift Airship is back for their second deep space voyage on Song Picks with the song “Holiday.” As we reported in November 2020, Adrift Airship is more of a project than a band, but we’re hoping they put together some live performances in the future. If you’re sick of what you do and your bills are over do, go on an Airship Holiday. Learn more about Adrift Airship on Facebook, stream them on Spotify and Apple Music and watch them on Youtube.   –Freddie Torrance
