Song Picks of the Week – Sept. 15, 2020

Song Picks of the Week Echo Muse

This week features Spilling Out buy Echo Muse, Despite The Pixels On The Sun by Starmy and Here Come The Lights by Off Center.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

1) “Spilling Out” | Echo Muse | Post Hardcore/Metalcore

I’ve been obsessing over Echo Muse this past week. Lyndie Wadsworth manages the band and sent me links a while back. This week I finally found the time to listen. By the way, when people send me songs, I always listen to them. I use that one “listen” to narrow the field. If it makes it past that first edit, I listen a second time. My second listen of “Spilling Out” quickly became a dozen listens. With a great vocals, plenty of hooks crunchy guitars and amazing production—”Spilling Out” was an easy choice for our Song Picks of the Week. Stream Echo Muse on Spotify, check out their videos on Youtube, purchase their music on Apple Music and learn more about the band on their facebook page. Watch for more of Echo Muse here on Salt Lake Bard. – Scott Cullins

2) “Despite The Pixels On The Sun” | Starmy | Rock ‘n Roll

Starmy have been kicking around for quite a few years now. “Despite The Pixels On The Sun” has a great Beatles-esque vibe that is instantly nostalgic and fresh. According to their website, starmyslc.com, the band is coming out with a new album this year…as in 2020. What a year to remember. Impeachment, pandemic, riots and a new Starmy album! At least one of these has a shot at turning out great. Stream Starmy on Spotify, buy their music on Bandcamp and watch on Youtube. – Freddie Torrance

3) “Here Come The Lights” | Off Center | Genre: Alt Rock/Punk

I discovered “Here Come The Lights” while following the facebook group Local Bands Utah and SLC. Someone by the name of Jess Poulson has been building a database of all Utah bands. And so…I’ve been prowling that list on and off for a few months—trying hard to listen to every band that posts their stats. If you’re in a band, you should add your band info to that post. I think Jess is doing a great service. Anyhow…Off Center is an intersting band. They started filming rehearsals in a format that reminds me of “The Office,” where members are filmed in mock confidentiality, making awkward statements about themselves and band members. Pretty funny. Check it out. Listen to Off Center on Spotify, check out their website and check out their linktr.ee page for all kinds of links. – Scott Cullins

That’s it for this weeks song picks. Check back next week for more great local music picks.
