Song Picks of the Week – October 13, 2020

This week features I Can’t Breathe by Berlin Breaks, Fuel Disconnect by Rejoin the Team and Malevolence by Acacia Ridge

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

1) “I Can’t Breathe” | Berlin Breaks

From the EP “Monsters,” “I Can’t Breathe” really shows how much Berlin Breaks has changed since adding vocalist Jordan Young. Young joined the band in 2017 so the new EP has been long in coming. Catch Berlin Breaks at the Urban Lounge this coming November 11, 2020…we’ll be there for sure (see show calendar). Learn more about Berlin Breaks at berlin-breaks.com, stream on Spotify, watch on Youtube and purchase on Apple Music. –Scott Cullins

2) “Malevolence” | Acacia Ridge

Acacia Ridge formed in 2017 and tell an intersting story about how, while searching for a vocalist, they discovered their new rhythm guitarist Christian Mayfield could sing. Mayfield ditched the guitar…the band found another guitarist and became whole. From the 2019 album “Watch Your Monarchs Fall,” “Malevolence” tells a dark story of two brothers. Learn more about Acacia Ridge at www.acaciaridgeband.com, stream on Spotify, purchase on Apple Music. –Freddie Torrance

3) “Fuel Disconnect” | Rejoin the Team | Punk

Rejoin the Team had been around 10 years. After a brief hiatus—and a bit of shuffling band members—the band reformed in 2017. “Fuel Disconnect” was released last july, 2020 as a single. Check it out. These SLC outskirters are bringing it for 2020. Purchase music from the band’s Bandcamp page and stream on Spotify. –Freddie Torrance
