Song Picks of the Week – December 1, 2020

Song Picks of the Week featuring Scarlet Rain

Featuring “Iowa String” by Scarlet Rain, “Wanderer” by Swantourage and “Forever” by Late Night Savior.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

1) “Iowa String” | Scarlet Rain | Rock

Scarlet Rain likes to say they’re the most memorable band from a town you’ve never heard of. I’ve traveled a lot of roads in Utah, so I’m not so sure about that. But I am sure that this hard rockin’ band is memorable. “Iowa String” is a punchy, riff-driven rocker and vocalist Carrie Anderson reminds a lot of Pat Benatar—she has that kind of power and that kind of attitude. Learn more about Scarlet Rain on the Facebook page, listen to the band on Spotify and Apple Music and watch them on Youtube. –Scott Cullins

2) “Wanderer” | Swantourage | Jazz/Blues

My buddy Bill Stoye introduced me to Swantourage, pre-COVID 2019, when the band had a regular gig at Bar X on Thursday nights. It was the best night of the week: hit up the open jam at Level Crossing then close out the evening with some great music from Swantourage at the Bar X. On “Wanderer” you might recognize the vocal contributions from a couple other Utah musicians. Take a listen and learn more about Swantourage on Facebook, stream their music on Spotify and stream or purchase through Apple. –Scott Cullins

3) “Forever” | Late Night Savior | Rock

Back once again the our Song Picks of the Week is Late Night Savior with “Forever,” from their 2017 album “Into the Aftermath.” This song reminds me a lot of “Going Under” by Evanescence. The vocal performances by Brandon Johnson and Talese Haddock are excellent. Check it out. Learn more about Late Night Savior at latenightsaviorband.com, stream on Spotify and buy on Apple Music and watch on their Youtube channel. –Scott Cullins
