Song Picks of the Week – January 12, 2021

Song Picks of the Week features Utah band, Foreign Figures

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

“Jank” | Foreign Figures | Indie

“Jank” is our favorite tune off of the Foreign Figures’ 2019 EP “Everything Is Never As It Seems.” Formed in 2016, this Orem-based alt-pop band includes Eric Michels (vocals), Jonny Tanner (Guitar), Seth Dunshee (Bass) and Steve Michels (Drums), and has since amassed a fast growing and intensely loyal following. Learn more about Foreign Figures at foreignfigures.com, stream them on Spotify and Apple Music, or watch on Youtube, – Norman Boland

“Killing Floor” | American Hitmen | Rock

American Hitmen are unique in that the band was formed in 2005 by Marine Corps Combat Veterans Tim and Dan Cord, along with fellow Marines and musicians. From the battlefields in Iraq to the legendary stage of Radio City Music Hall, American Hitmen have paid their dues. The “Killing Floor” video was released last September, 2020 and the song is off the 2015 album, “Give ‘Em What They Want.” Learn more about American Hitmen at americanhitmen.com, stream on Spotify and Apple Music, and watch on Youtube– Scott Cullins

“The Sun Will Shine Again” | Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband

Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband have been rocking, pickin’ and entertaining audiences across the country for a couple decades now. “The Sun Will Shine Again” is a sweet Newgrass (modern take on bluegrass) tune, but the band is known for songs in many styles, including rock, hip hop and more.  Learn more about Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband at ryanshupe.com, stream on Spotify and Apple Music, watch on Youtube. – Freddie Torrance

Our goal is to introduce the great Utah artists to the world. If you are an artists and would like to be featured on a future Salt Lake Bard Song Picks of the Week, please check out our submission requirements. And if you hear of anything you think we should be listening too, send it our way.
