Sunfish Rocks Kilby Court

The band Sunfish performs at Kilby Court

Last Friday I got the chance to check out Sunfish, at Kilby Court. Sunfish is a young rock band out of Holiday, UT, and also happen to be one of my favorite up-and-coming bands. Up-and-coming might not be so accurate of a term. These guys are young—mostly in high school—but they play with skill and already have a slew of well-produced tunes out there in the stream-o-sphere.

As I rolled up Kilby Court, the street, I realized Sunfish would be the first live band I had seen, post pandemic at Kilby Court, the venue. I wasn’t worried at all about attending a live show at the small, standing only venue, becasue I know S&S Presents has been doing a great job setting and managing safety measures—like social distancing and mask rules.

The band, Sunfish

The band, Sunfish.

When Sunfish took the stage, I realized how strict those rules were. The band—including singer Carter Sears—wore masks for the entire performance, as did the audience. Despite being muzzled, Carter did a great job belting out lyrics.

The band played a couple of my favs, Doors and Whatever, along with another I recognized, Too High. The band also introduced a couple news tunes to their loyal fans, who loved every moment of the performance.

Sears, who plays guitar and sings, is a high school senior as is Luke Arnold on keys and sax. Drummer Damon Morreale is a sophomore and bassist Tanner Lokey is a junior but was not in attendance. The old man of the bunch is guitarist Nathan Shen, who sat in on bass and attends Berklee School of Music in Boston. Worth noting was the great job Shen did with only a few short days to learn all the bass parts.

We featured the song Doors in a recent Song Picks of the Week. Check it out and explore some of there other music while your at it. And make sure you keep your eyes on our curated show calendar that includes only those nads vetted by the Bard editors.
