Ryan Innes Salt Lake Bard

Featuring What I’m Looking For by Ryan Innes, Mosaic by Scott Cullins and Alone by Death and All His Friends.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old —from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

What I’m Looking For | Ryan Innes

When I first heard Ryan Innes What I’m Looking For, I realized I must have had my head in the sand these past 7 years. Perhaps it’s my aversion to network television. Innes, who was a contest on NBC’s The Voice in 2013, received a four-chair turn and was fortunate to work with Usher as his coach. After The Voice, Innes returned to Utah to focus on writing his debut album. Mosaic  |  Scott Cullins

I’ve been trying to convince Scott Cullins to include Mosaic on SPW for some months now. He has stubbornly resisted the idea because he feels it’s a conflict due to his editorial position with Salt lake Bard. This week, he was overruled in a 2-1 decision. Scott says Mosaic was written and recoded at his home studio—during one recording session—then mixed and mastered at Pale Horse Sound. Alone | Death and All His Friends

I’m not really known for my pop or dance genre expertise, but some of our readers have been saying the Bard needs to broaden it’s genres in SPW. Message received and no problem by the way. The song Alone, from Death and All His Friends, has been on my radar for weeks now. Garrett Garfield delivers an excellent vocal performance, but what really hit me is the funky bass line delivered by bassist River Wilde. I wonder if that’s his real name? I digress. Follow Death and All His Friends on Instagram, stream them on Spotify and Apple Music, and watch them on Youtube. – Scott Cullins
