Michelle Moonshine Salt Lake Bard Song Picks of the Week

Featuring Oh So Many Days by Michelle Moonshine, The Secret Forest Lament by Kate MacLeod, and Ego by Rainy Dawn.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

Oh So Many Days | Michelle Moonshine

In Oh So Many Days, Michelle Moonshine sings of missing her man. Can you blame her? I mean, is Andrew Wiscombe is a spitting image of Brad Pitt or what? With Valentine’s day around the corner, it seems the perfect time to include a song like Oh So Many Days. Fans of The Voice are fortunate that one of this season’s contestants can be found performing acoustic gigs around Northern Utah. Catch her at the Garage on Beck this Sunday night. The Secret Forest Lament  |  Kate MacLeod

Highly-regarded in the international folk community, and literally a household name in Utah folk circles, Utahn Kate MacLeod has been writing and performing for decades. I was fortunate to meet Kate several years ago, when she teamed up storyteller extraordinaire Guy Davis to host a songwriting workshop in Salt Lake City. MacLeod says The Secret Forest Lament was inspired by the book The Secret Forest, by Charles Bowden. She wrote the song for a special event commemorating the passing of the book’s author. Ego | Rainy Dawn

Back for another appearance on SPW is the duet Rainy Dawn, with the song Ego. We featured Rainy Dawn in out SPW from last November. The vocal performances, delivered by Launa Wadsworth and Lyndi Wadsworth, are haunting and introspective. Ego offers an intersting and intimate look inside a woman’s head and heart. Learn more about Rainy Dawn on Facebook, stream their music on Spotify and stream or purchase through Apple. – Freddie Torrance
