Song Picks of the Week – November 17, 2020

Song Picks of the Week: Adrift Airship

Featuring “Palms” by Herban Empire, “White Noise” by Echo Muse and “Dead Ready” by Starmy.

Every Tuesday, we post our favorite song discoveries — both new and old —from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out the three picks below and then check out our archive of past Song Picks of the Week.

1) “Sociopath” | Adrift Airship | Funk/Space Indie
By Scott Cullins

This week our first song pick is from Adrift Airship, a collaboration between Scott Madsen and Ian Hilton. The two team up on writing, performing and recording, with ambient vocals provided by friends and Madsen handling the mix. “Sociopath” was released as a single in 2020 and I love the funk sound…it really makes me want to get up and move. You can stream Adrift Airship on Spotify or Soundcloud, purchase on Apple Music and learn more on the artist’s Facebook page.

2) “Pain” | Royal Bliss | Rock
By Scott Cullins

Back for another appearance on Song Picks of the Week is Salt Lake City’s kings of rock, Royal Bliss. “Pain” provides a narrative—my interpretation anyway—that parallels my own life’s challenges: one of struggle in turning to drugs and alcohol to deal with all the shit in this world. Royal Bliss just keeps getting better with age. Their 2019 self-titled album, includes “Pain” and “Paranoid”—another great song we featured back in July. Check out the video of “Pain,” purchase Royal Bliss music Apple Music or Amazon, stream on Spotify and learn more about the band at royalbliss.com.

3) “Shadows” | Berlin Breaks | Rock
By Norman Boland

Released as a single in 2020, “Shadows” is a great follow up to the 2019 EP “Monsters.” I’m looking forward to seeing Berlin Breaks live at the Royal on Saturday, November 21, 2020. The pandemic is many things—mostly bad for the music industry—but I expect a lot of music is being written and I’m counting on Berlin Breaks having an amazing set to show off. Learn more about Berlin Breaks at berlin-breaks.com, stream on Spotify, watch on Youtube and purchase on Apple Music.
