Song Picks of the Week – February 18, 2021

Sammy Brue Salt Lake Bard

Featuring Teenage Mayhem by Sammy Brue, Natchez Trace by Triggers & Slips and Leftovers by Swantourage.

Each week, Salt Lake Bard posts our favorite song discoveries — both new and old — from local artists around the Intermountain West. Check out our three picks below, find past selections in our archive of past Song Picks of the Week (SPW), and stream all of our picks on the Bard Spotify playlist or watch them on the Bard Youtube playlist.

1) Teenage Mayhem  |  Sammy Brue

Sammy Brue’s old time music influences are right up front with the opening riff and vocal affects on Teenage Mayhem. Fairly quickly, however, the song kicks into gear and takes you on a wild ride that showcases Brue’s modern day rebel spirit. Sammy’s eclectic style reflects the diverse music styles his father introduced him to at a young age—from Dylan to Nirvana. Check out Teenage Mayhem, from his 2020 release Crash Test Kid. Learn more about Sammy Brue at sammybrue.com, follow on Facebook and Instagram, purchase CD’s an Vinyl on Bandcamp, stream on Spotify and Apple Music and watch on Youtube. – Scott Cullins

2) Natchez Trace | Triggers & Slips

I had he fortune of seeing Triggers & Slips perform in 2020 at a socially distant show Pierpont Place, in the midst of the pandemic. Live shows were rare last year, so the show was made extra special by the audience and their pent up need for live music. Fronted by Morgan Snow, Triggers & Slips walks a fine line between country and rock and roll. On Natchez Trace, Snow sings about an infamous mountain road that brings death to his family. Learn more about Triggers & Slips at triggersandslips.com, follow them on Facebook, stream them on Spotify and Apple Music, and watch on Youtube. –Scott Cullins

3) Leftovers | Swantourage

Jazz for the Working man is how Swantourage bills itself. This jazz trio doesn’t have a vocalist. However, when they hot the studio they call on local crooners like Morgan Whitney, who steps in to sing the lead on Leftovers. In the song, a frustrated woman sings of wanting to be everything for her cheating man. We featured Swantourage in our SPW from December, last year, with the song Wanderer. Take a listen and learn more about Swantourage on Facebook, stream their music on Spotify, Apple Music and Youtube– Freddie Torrance
